Let's get down to business: is it safe to ski this season? The short answer is yes, the long answer is 'it depends'.
Survey findings released last week by the Ski Club found that 86% of skiers still plan to go skiing this season. Very positive news, but how safe will skiing be, really? The coronavirus is still around after all.
Well, the other good news is the the ski resorts across Europe are gearing up to welcome skiers back to their slopes this season. As with most hospitality businesses across the globe, ski resorts have adjusted their offering and made changes to social distancing and their health and safety processes to ensure they are safe space for visitors.
LIVE UPDATES: WHERE CAN I SKI THIS SEASON?
The information below is taken live from the UK Governments travel quarantine web pages. If those pages update, the information will update, live.
When we first created this table, there was simply a 'travel corridor' list (remember that?!) and now we're onto a traffic light system.
Check the UK travel advice pages for each country, but in summary, if the country is on the green list, you're good to go. Amber should be ok if you're double jabbed.
So which of the countries are currently green, amber and red, based on the UK Government's travel list? See below:
If the country you are planning on travelling to for skiing is shown as green, you're good to go!
If the country you are planning on travelling to for skiing is shown as amber, then bear in mind you may need to do some testing, and potentially quarantine. Each country may even have specific requirements on arrival. It all depends on the country quarantine rules. You can find them on the UK Government travel website.
BOOK EARLY
A top tip from in-resort hotels is to book your ski holiday for 2021/22 early.
Why? Well thanks to the pesky coronavirus, capacity in ski resorts is currently limited due to social distancing and fewer flights and trains over to Europe and further afield, so you'll need to get in quick to bag your flights / trains and accommodation.
OTHER BITS TO CHECK
Does your travel insurance cover you for any unforeseen travel disruption?
Does your travel insurance help with cancellations?
Does you accommodation and/or travel provider offer credit, date moves or refunds?
Do you have your NHS Covid Pass?
Stay safe, get skiing, enjoy the slopes this winter! (Maybe see you in Meribel. Or Tignes. Or Verbier. All all of the above!)
